Avery Dennison RFID Takes Metro Stores Into the Future
Avery Dennison was the RFID label supplier to the METRO Group Future Store Initiative. This initiative by the Metro Group and its partners demonstrates innovations in retailing.
One of these innovations is radio frequency identification, or RFID. RFID is mainly used in the supply chain and in the warehouse of the Future Store.
In the store itself, RFID labels are tested on three products (cream cheese, shampoo, and razor blades). Moreover, RFID labels serve as theft prevention for high-value items, such as DVDs, videos and CDs.

Avery Dennison Works with Microsoft Corporate and snack maker KiMS to Demonstrate RFID Feasibility
Avery Dennison supplied RFID-enabled labels to a Microsoft Corporation pilot project that incorporated product-tracking technology within the supply chain of Danish snack maker KiMs, which ships about 100,000 pallets of snacks per year to retailers.
KiMs is using the system to track pallets of finished goods as they move from production into distribution. Pallet level RFID tags are scanned during storage, loading, and shipment.
